About this Image

Reflection Canyon, Utah

Reflection Canyon had lived at the top of my list for years. It was one of those places that carried weight long before I ever stood there, built up through stories, images, and the simple knowledge of how much effort it takes just to reach it. When we finally arrived, there was no sense of urgency to make it something more than it was. I wanted to see what the canyon would give us on its own terms.

This sunrise was quiet. Clean. Unforced. A year earlier in my journey, I likely would have replaced the sky with something more dramatic, chasing spectacle for its own sake. I’m not completely opposed to that approach when conditions genuinely require it, especially in night photography where camera limitations often demand more intervention. But with sunrises and sunsets, we’re not bound by the same constraints.

This image reflects a shift toward letting scenes exist as they are more often. Not as a rule, not as a manifesto, but as a choice. This was the light that arrived that morning, and it felt honest to let it stand.

Context and Landscape

Reflection Canyon is a remote side canyon of Lake Powell in southern Utah, carved into Navajo sandstone by the Colorado River over millions of years. The iconic overlook sits far from pavement and requires long stretches of rugged travel and a demanding hike across exposed desert terrain. There are no marked trails and very little margin for error, which has kept the area relatively quiet despite its reputation.

The looping bends below were once dry canyon corridors before the creation of Lake Powell. Today, water traces the curves of stone, emphasizing the layered geology and soft symmetry that make the canyon so visually striking. At sunrise, the low angle of the sun reveals subtle color shifts in the rock, from cool shadowed blues to warm sandstone highlights.

This is a landscape shaped slowly and revealed briefly. The light moves fast here, and what exists at first light is gone just as quickly.

Creation Notes

The image was created using a modest focus stack to maintain sharpness from the foreground rim into the distant canyon formations. Because of the distance to the primary features, only minimal stacking was required.

Additional Details About The Print

Acrylic Brilliance

Acrylic brings depth, clarity, and presence that traditional prints simply cannot. Light moves through the image, giving the photograph a dimensional quality that feels immersive rather than flat. The result is a piece that holds attention across a room and feels as bold as the landscape it came from.

Limited Edition 25

Limited Edition works are produced in an edition of 25 total prints, regardless of size. Once all 25 are sold, the edition is permanently closed and never reproduced as a single print again. Every piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a personal narrative that captures the story behind the image, from the journey to the moment it was created.

All prints are made to order and typically require 7-14 business days of production. Once complete, your artwork is carefully packaged and shipped with full insurance and tracking. We ship worldwide; domestic orders within the contiguous United States usually arrive within 1–5 business days. International deliveries are subject to local duties and taxes, which are the responsibility of the buyer. Large pieces may ship via freight and require additional handling time.

Mounting and Displaying your Art

Each piece arrives ready to hang with a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket to float the artwork approximately one inch off the wall, giving a refined gallery presentation. For small prints where a cleat is impractical, alternate hardware (screw or wire hanger) may be used on request. Because wall materials vary, we do not supply wall anchors and strongly recommend professional installation, especially for large or high‑value pieces. Image as example only, exact hardware can vary slightly

  • LIFETIME RUNS

    Limited Editions

    of 25 Prints

Every photograph released as a limited edition is capped at twenty‑five total prints across all sizes and finishes. Once all twenty‑five are placed, the edition closes permanently and is never produced again. Your piece will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the edition number (for example, 3/25), the title, and a personal narrative about how the photograph was captured and created. A serialised holographic sticker links the certificate to the artwork, ensuring provenance and authenticity for resale or appraisal.

  • MATERIALS & PRINTING

    Acrylic

    Face-Mount Process

Each limited edition print is produced using a gallery‑grade acrylic face‑mounting process. The image is printed on high‑resolution metallic photo paper with archival inks, then permanently bonded to UV‑resistant acrylic using an optically clear adhesive. This technique allows light to pass through the acrylic and reflect off the metallic print, creating depth, vibrant color, and a dramatic presence. Cast acrylic is used to prevent yellowing over time, and the edges are polished for a refined finish.

  • MOUNTING & DISPLAY

    Ready to

    Present

Each piece arrives ready to hang using a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back of the artwork. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket, causing the print to float roughly one inch off the wall for a clean, modern presentation. Due to the weight and value of these pieces, professional installation is strongly recommended.
