About this Image

Reflection Canyon, Utah

Reflection Canyon is one of those places photographers speak about with equal parts reverence and caution. Not because it’s fragile in spirit, but because it demands effort before it gives you anything back. Getting here requires commitment, planning, and a willingness to be uncomfortable for a while. We made the trip with friends, carried what we needed, and earned every step that led to this overlook.

This photograph came during a period when I started pulling back from the urge to over-polish night images. The Milky Way here is exactly what the night gave us. Conditions weren’t ideal, and the sky reflects that. I could have replaced it with a more dramatic sky from another trip or another year. I chose not to. I wanted the image to remain tied to that exact night, that exact effort, and that exact experience.

What matters to me here isn’t perfection. It’s honesty. Standing on that rim, looking down into the canyon, the sky felt quiet, restrained, and real. That’s what this image holds.

Context and Landscape

Reflection Canyon sits deep within the Glen Canyon region of southern Utah, carved into layers of Navajo sandstone by the Colorado River over millions of years. The looping bend below is part of Lake Powell, where rising water transformed once-dry canyons into flooded corridors of stone.

The overlook itself is famously difficult to reach. There are no real marked trails, no signs pointing the way, and no shortcuts. Access typically involves long stretches of rough backcountry roads followed by a demanding hike across exposed slickrock and desert terrain. Many visitors treat it as an overnight journey, carrying all water and supplies with them.

Its reputation spread quickly after early photographs brought it into the public eye, but the difficulty of access has kept it from becoming crowded. Even today, standing here often feels solitary. The canyon doesn’t perform. It waits.

Creation Notes

The foreground was created using a focus stack to maintain sharpness from the cactus in the immediate foreground through the distant canyon formations. The sky was photographed later the same evening and placed precisely where it appeared relative to the landscape. The final image reflects the conditions that existed that night, not an idealized version of them.

Additional Details About The Print

Acrylic Brilliance

Acrylic brings depth, clarity, and presence that traditional prints simply cannot. Light moves through the image, giving the photograph a dimensional quality that feels immersive rather than flat. The result is a piece that holds attention across a room and feels as bold as the landscape it came from.

Limited Edition 25

Limited Edition works are produced in an edition of 25 total prints, regardless of size. Once all 25 are sold, the edition is permanently closed and never reproduced as a single print again. Every piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a personal narrative that captures the story behind the image, from the journey to the moment it was created.

All prints are made to order and typically require 7-14 business days of production. Once complete, your artwork is carefully packaged and shipped with full insurance and tracking. We ship worldwide; domestic orders within the contiguous United States usually arrive within 1–5 business days. International deliveries are subject to local duties and taxes, which are the responsibility of the buyer. Large pieces may ship via freight and require additional handling time.

Mounting and Displaying your Art

Each piece arrives ready to hang with a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket to float the artwork approximately one inch off the wall, giving a refined gallery presentation. For small prints where a cleat is impractical, alternate hardware (screw or wire hanger) may be used on request. Because wall materials vary, we do not supply wall anchors and strongly recommend professional installation, especially for large or high‑value pieces. Image as example only, exact hardware can vary slightly

  • LIFETIME RUNS

    Limited Editions

    of 25 Prints

Every photograph released as a limited edition is capped at twenty‑five total prints across all sizes and finishes. Once all twenty‑five are placed, the edition closes permanently and is never produced again. Your piece will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the edition number (for example, 3/25), the title, and a personal narrative about how the photograph was captured and created. A serialised holographic sticker links the certificate to the artwork, ensuring provenance and authenticity for resale or appraisal.

  • MATERIALS & PRINTING

    Acrylic

    Face-Mount Process

Each limited edition print is produced using a gallery‑grade acrylic face‑mounting process. The image is printed on high‑resolution metallic photo paper with archival inks, then permanently bonded to UV‑resistant acrylic using an optically clear adhesive. This technique allows light to pass through the acrylic and reflect off the metallic print, creating depth, vibrant color, and a dramatic presence. Cast acrylic is used to prevent yellowing over time, and the edges are polished for a refined finish.

  • MOUNTING & DISPLAY

    Ready to

    Present

Each piece arrives ready to hang using a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back of the artwork. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket, causing the print to float roughly one inch off the wall for a clean, modern presentation. Due to the weight and value of these pieces, professional installation is strongly recommended.
