About this Image

Mount Sneffels, Colorado

This photograph was made in the afternoon while traveling through the San Juan Mountains between Ouray and Telluride. I wasn’t chasing drama or waiting on a narrow window of light. I simply wanted to see how Mount Sneffels would hold up when treated plainly, with a longer lens and a single exposure.

As I’ve leaned more into traditional approaches, I’ve found myself reaching for portrait-length and telephoto lenses more often. Wide-angle work will always be at the core of what I do, but longer focal lengths feel more restrained, more observational. They compress space, simplify the scene, and often feel closer to how the eye actually experiences a place.

This image reflects that shift. No stacking, no reconstruction, no elaborate technique. Just light, distance, and a mountain that doesn’t need much help to make a statement.

Context and Landscape

Mount Sneffels rises to 14,158 feet, making it the highest peak in the Sneffels Range of Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. It is one of the most prominent and recognizable fourteeners in the state, visible from long distances across the Uncompahgre Valley.

The mountain is volcanic in origin, formed by ancient eruptions that built up layers of breccia and lava before erosion carved the steep faces and couloirs seen today. Snow often clings to its upper slopes well into summer, emphasizing the sharp ridgelines and dramatic relief.

The surrounding San Juan Mountains are known for their rugged terrain, deep valleys, and sudden shifts in weather. From this vantage point, Sneffels stands apart from nearby peaks, its pyramid-like shape clearly defining the skyline. The forests below and the open basins around it give the mountain room to breathe, allowing its scale to read clearly even from a distance.

Creation Notes

This image was captured as a single exposure using a telephoto lens to compress the layers of forest, valley, and peak. No focus stacking or compositing was used.

Additional Details About The Print

Acrylic Brilliance

Acrylic brings depth, clarity, and presence that traditional prints simply cannot. Light moves through the image, giving the photograph a dimensional quality that feels immersive rather than flat. The result is a piece that holds attention across a room and feels as bold as the landscape it came from.

Limited Edition 25

Limited Edition works are produced in an edition of 25 total prints, regardless of size. Once all 25 are sold, the edition is permanently closed and never reproduced as a single print again. Every piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a personal narrative that captures the story behind the image, from the journey to the moment it was created.

Mounting and Displaying your Art

Each piece arrives ready to hang with a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket to float the artwork approximately one inch off the wall, giving a refined gallery presentation. For small prints where a cleat is impractical, alternate hardware (screw or wire hanger) may be used on request. Because wall materials vary, we do not supply wall anchors and strongly recommend professional installation, especially for large or high‑value pieces. Image as example only, exact hardware can vary slightly

  • LIFETIME RUNS

    Limited Editions

    of 25 Prints

Every photograph released as a limited edition is capped at twenty‑five total prints across all sizes and finishes. Once all twenty‑five are placed, the edition closes permanently and is never produced again. Your piece will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the edition number (for example, 3/25), the title, and a personal narrative about how the photograph was captured and created. A serialised holographic sticker links the certificate to the artwork, ensuring provenance and authenticity for resale or appraisal.

  • MATERIALS & PRINTING

    Acrylic

    Face-Mount Process

Each limited edition print is produced using a gallery‑grade acrylic face‑mounting process. The image is printed on high‑resolution metallic photo paper with archival inks, then permanently bonded to UV‑resistant acrylic using an optically clear adhesive. This technique allows light to pass through the acrylic and reflect off the metallic print, creating depth, vibrant color, and a dramatic presence. Cast acrylic is used to prevent yellowing over time, and the edges are polished for a refined finish.

  • MOUNTING & DISPLAY

    Ready to

    Present

Each piece arrives ready to hang using a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back of the artwork. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket, causing the print to float roughly one inch off the wall for a clean, modern presentation. Due to the weight and value of these pieces, professional installation is strongly recommended.
