About this Image

Telluride, Colorado

This photograph was made in Telluride during autumn, looking straight up into an aspen grove. The original plan for the trip was to photograph fall color paired with fresh mountain snow, the combination Telluride is known for. That snow never came.

Rather than chase scenes that weren’t going to materialize, I shifted direction. I leaned into abstraction and proximity, letting the forest itself become the subject. Using an ultra-wide 10mm lens, I stepped beneath the aspens and worked vertically, allowing trunks, branches, and leaves to stretch outward and distort naturally toward the edges of the frame.

The result is less about place as a postcard and more about immersion. Standing there, the canopy felt endless. Gold leaves filtered the light, the sky turned deep blue above, and the world narrowed to what was directly overhead.

This image came from adapting to conditions instead of fighting them.

Context and Landscape

Telluride sits in a high alpine valley surrounded by steep peaks and dense mountain forests. Aspen groves dominate many of the lower and mid elevations, transforming dramatically each fall as their leaves turn bright yellow before dropping almost all at once.

Aspens grow in connected root systems, meaning entire groves are often genetically linked. What looks like many trees is often one organism expressing itself across a hillside. In autumn, those shared systems shift together, creating large, unified blocks of color.

Even without snow, the seasonal transition is abrupt and unmistakable. Light becomes sharper, air thins, and the forest floor fills quickly as the canopy gives way.

Creation Notes

This image was captured as a single exposure using a 10mm ultra-wide lens. The wide field of view exaggerates scale and curvature, allowing the trees to stretch and bend toward the edges of the frame.

The photograph was made in natural light with the sun positioned low enough to create a defined sun star through the leaves. No focus stacking or blending was used. The softness and distortion toward the edges are a natural result of the lens and angle, and were intentionally preserved.

Additional Details About The Print

Acrylic Brilliance

Acrylic brings depth, clarity, and presence that traditional prints simply cannot. Light moves through the image, giving the photograph a dimensional quality that feels immersive rather than flat. The result is a piece that holds attention across a room and feels as bold as the landscape it came from.

Mounting and Displaying your Art

Each piece arrives ready to hang with a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket to float the artwork approximately one inch off the wall, giving a refined gallery presentation. For small prints where a cleat is impractical, alternate hardware (screw or wire hanger) may be used on request. Because wall materials vary, we do not supply wall anchors and strongly recommend professional installation, especially for large or high‑value pieces. Image as example only, exact hardware can vary slightly

  • LIFETIME RUNS

    Limited Editions

    of 25 Prints

Every photograph released as a limited edition is capped at twenty‑five total prints across all sizes and finishes. Once all twenty‑five are placed, the edition closes permanently and is never produced again. Your piece will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the edition number (for example, 3/25), the title, and a personal narrative about how the photograph was captured and created. A serialised holographic sticker links the certificate to the artwork, ensuring provenance and authenticity for resale or appraisal.

  • MATERIALS & PRINTING

    Acrylic

    Face-Mount Process

Each limited edition print is produced using a gallery‑grade acrylic face‑mounting process. The image is printed on high‑resolution metallic photo paper with archival inks, then permanently bonded to UV‑resistant acrylic using an optically clear adhesive. This technique allows light to pass through the acrylic and reflect off the metallic print, creating depth, vibrant color, and a dramatic presence. Cast acrylic is used to prevent yellowing over time, and the edges are polished for a refined finish.

  • MOUNTING & DISPLAY

    Ready to

    Present

Each piece arrives ready to hang using a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back of the artwork. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket, causing the print to float roughly one inch off the wall for a clean, modern presentation. Due to the weight and value of these pieces, professional installation is strongly recommended.
