About this Image

Mesa de Anguila, Big Bend National Park, Texas

This photograph was made on the rim of Mesa de Anguila later in the day, overlooking a winding section of the Rio Grande below. The vantage point sits high above the canyon floor, fully exposed and distant from the more traveled areas of the park.

I worked close to a single prickly pear growing at the edge of the rim, using it as a foreground anchor against the depth of the canyon. From this position, the river appears narrow and reflective, threading through layered stone and sparse vegetation.

The light was steady and directional at this point in the day, allowing the landscape to remain readable without dramatic shifts. The scene did not require waiting or chasing alignment. It was about placement, balance, and holding position.

Context and Landscape

Mesa de Anguila lies along the western boundary of Big Bend National Park and is one of its least visited areas. Access requires a long approach and a steep ascent, with no shade, no water, and little margin for error.

From the rim, the scale of the land opens quickly. The canyon walls drop away, and the Rio Grande defines the composition far below. The terrain here is dry, sparse, and largely undisturbed.

This section of the park feels removed from infrastructure and signage. The landscape presents itself without guidance or interpretation.

Creation Notes

This image was created using a straightforward focus stack to maintain clarity across the foreground cactus and the distant canyon. Multiple exposures were captured from a fixed tripod position and blended to overcome the limitations of depth of field inherent in wide-angle compositions at close range.

All prints are made to order and typically require 7-14 business days of production. Once complete, your artwork is carefully packaged and shipped with full insurance and tracking. We ship worldwide; domestic orders within the contiguous United States usually arrive within 1–5 business days. International deliveries are subject to local duties and taxes, which are the responsibility of the buyer. Large pieces may ship via freight and require additional handling time.

Mounting and Displaying your Art

Each piece arrives ready to hang with a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket to float the artwork approximately one inch off the wall, giving a refined gallery presentation. For small prints where a cleat is impractical, alternate hardware (screw or wire hanger) may be used on request. Because wall materials vary, we do not supply wall anchors and strongly recommend professional installation, especially for large or high‑value pieces.     Every photograph released as a limited edition is capped at twenty‑five total prints across all sizes and finishes. Once all twenty‑five are placed, the edition closes permanently and is never produced again. Your piece will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the edition number (for example, 3/25), the title, and a personal narrative about how the photograph was captured and created. A serialised holographic sticker links the certificate to the artwork, ensuring provenance and authenticity for resale or appraisal.

    Face-Mount Process

    Each limited edition print is produced using a gallery‑grade acrylic face‑mounting process. The image is printed on high‑resolution metallic photo paper with archival inks, then permanently bonded to UV‑resistant acrylic using an optically clear adhesive. This technique allows light to pass through the acrylic and reflect off the metallic print, creating depth, vibrant color, and a dramatic presence. Cast acrylic is used to prevent yellowing over time, and the edges are polished for a refined finish.
