About this Image

Lake Ilopango, El Salvador

This photograph was made beside Lake Ilopango, standing beneath a tree that stopped me in my tracks. Its branches twisted and bent in every direction, thick and muscular, reaching across the sky like something alive. I stepped underneath it and looked straight up, letting the canopy frame the light above.

This was my first major international photography trip. I lived in El Salvador for more than two months, and it was one of the most important chapters of my life. Years earlier, in high school, I had been welcomed into an Salvadoran family. I became best friends with the person I now call my brother, and their country became part of my story long before I ever picked up a camera seriously.

This was the first time I was able to experience El Salvador, something that had not been possible for much of its recent history due to serious instability. Being there wasn’t about chasing dramatic landscapes or epic scale. It was about seeing a country I already loved with my own eyes.

This tree became a quiet anchor for that feeling. I wasn’t trying to document the lake or the volcano behind it. I was responding to form, light, and the simple act of standing beneath something older and unmoved by everything happening around it.

Context and Landscape

Lake Ilopango fills a massive volcanic caldera just east of San Salvador. The lake was formed by a catastrophic eruption more than a thousand years ago, an event so powerful it reshaped the surrounding region. Today, the water is calm, ringed by steep crater walls and pockets of dense vegetation that thrive along its edges.

Life here grows lush. Trees cling to the rim, roots gripping rock and soil shaped by violence long before any human history was written. What remains is not destruction, but resilience. The lake feels still, but the land carries memory.

This tree stands at the boundary between water and sky, shaped by years of wind, sun, and survival.

Creation Notes

This image was captured as a single exposure, photographed from directly beneath the tree, looking upward into the canopy. The composition was intentional, allowing the branches to form an abstract frame around the sun and sky.

A high aperture was used to create the sun star as light filtered through the leaves. The image is slightly soft, something I chose to embrace rather than correct. The softness supports the abstract nature of the photograph and keeps the emphasis on shape, contrast, and the interplay between highlights and shadow.

Color and contrast were adjusted subtly to preserve the natural greens and the warm sunlight breaking through the branches. No elements were added or removed. This photograph reflects a real moment, captured as it was, and marks one of my earliest steps into more abstract landscape work.

Additional Details About The Print

Acrylic Brilliance

Acrylic brings depth, clarity, and presence that traditional prints simply cannot. Light moves through the image, giving the photograph a dimensional quality that feels immersive rather than flat. The result is a piece that holds attention across a room and feels as bold as the landscape it came from.

Limited Edition 25

Limited Edition works are produced in an edition of 25 total prints, regardless of size. Once all 25 are sold, the edition is permanently closed and never reproduced as a single print again. Every piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a personal narrative that captures the story behind the image, from the journey to the moment it was created.

Mounting and Displaying your Art

Each piece arrives ready to hang with a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket to float the artwork approximately one inch off the wall, giving a refined gallery presentation. For small prints where a cleat is impractical, alternate hardware (screw or wire hanger) may be used on request. Because wall materials vary, we do not supply wall anchors and strongly recommend professional installation, especially for large or high‑value pieces. Image as example only, exact hardware can vary slightly

  • LIFETIME RUNS

    Limited Editions

    of 25 Prints

Every photograph released as a limited edition is capped at twenty‑five total prints across all sizes and finishes. Once all twenty‑five are placed, the edition closes permanently and is never produced again. Your piece will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the edition number (for example, 3/25), the title, and a personal narrative about how the photograph was captured and created. A serialised holographic sticker links the certificate to the artwork, ensuring provenance and authenticity for resale or appraisal.

  • MATERIALS & PRINTING

    Acrylic

    Face-Mount Process

Each limited edition print is produced using a gallery‑grade acrylic face‑mounting process. The image is printed on high‑resolution metallic photo paper with archival inks, then permanently bonded to UV‑resistant acrylic using an optically clear adhesive. This technique allows light to pass through the acrylic and reflect off the metallic print, creating depth, vibrant color, and a dramatic presence. Cast acrylic is used to prevent yellowing over time, and the edges are polished for a refined finish.

  • MOUNTING & DISPLAY

    Ready to

    Present

Each piece arrives ready to hang using a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back of the artwork. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket, causing the print to float roughly one inch off the wall for a clean, modern presentation. Due to the weight and value of these pieces, professional installation is strongly recommended.
