Through conversations with Navajo friends and others who carry this history forward, I have learned that petroglyphs can be stories, records, prayers, warnings, or memories. Their meanings are layered, and not all of them are meant to be fully understood by those passing through. Even today, some meanings are only held by Elders.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1618\" data-start=\"1354\"\u003eThe sun sat through the stone that evening, cutting a sharp line of light across the surface. For thousands of years, ancestral peoples marked stone across this landscape, leaving behind visual language that predates written history.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"2144\" data-start=\"1881\"\u003eThese sites are often found in quiet places. High ground. Volcanic rock. Areas where light, shadow, and time intersect. They were not created for decoration, but for continuity. To pass something forward. It does not label them or frame them.
