About this Image

Monahans Sandhills State Park, Texas

This photograph was made at Monahans Sandhills State Park after wandering the dunes just before sunset. I came across this single dune and stopped immediately. The curve was nearly perfect, soft and intentional, like something drawn rather than formed. It reminded me of the idealized dunes you see in films or illustrations, almost too clean to feel accidental.

The irony was that it pointed the wrong way for what most people would consider a dramatic composition. The light wasn’t cooperating, the direction wasn’t ideal, and it didn’t line up with the obvious choices. But night was a different story.

As night settled in, the dune held onto its form. The surface textures softened, the shadows stretched, and the curve became the entire story. This is the favorite photograph I’ve ever made at the Sandhills, not because it’s complex or technical, but because it felt complete without needing to be pushed.

Context and Landscape

Monahans Sandhills State Park protects a small but striking pocket of active dunes in West Texas. Unlike deserts where dunes stretch to the horizon, these sandhills feel intimate and ever-changing, shaped constantly by wind rather than scale.

The dunes here are alive. Footprints vanish quickly, ridges migrate, and the same scene can feel entirely different from one hour to the next. What makes the place special is how temporary everything feels. You’re never really photographing a fixed subject, only a momentary arrangement of sand and light.

At night, the dunes simplify. Texture replaces color, and form becomes the dominant language. Curves like this one exist briefly, then slowly dissolve back into something else.

Creation Notes

A simple focus stack was used to maintain clarity across the dune’s surface, though the scene itself didn’t demand much technical intervention. The goal was to preserve the natural flow of the sand and the quiet transition into darkness.

Additional Details About The Print

Acrylic Brilliance

Acrylic brings depth, clarity, and presence that traditional prints simply cannot. Light moves through the image, giving the photograph a dimensional quality that feels immersive rather than flat. The result is a piece that holds attention across a room and feels as bold as the landscape it came from.

Limited Edition 25

Limited Edition works are produced in an edition of 25 total prints, regardless of size. Once all 25 are sold, the edition is permanently closed and never reproduced as a single print again. Every piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a personal narrative that captures the story behind the image, from the journey to the moment it was created.

Printing & Shipping

All prints are made to order and typically require 7-14 business days of production. Once complete, your artwork is carefully packaged and shipped with full insurance and tracking. We ship worldwide; domestic orders within the contiguous United States usually arrive within 1–5 business days. International deliveries are subject to local duties and taxes, which are the responsibility of the buyer. Large pieces may ship via freight and require additional handling time.

Mounting and Displaying your Art

Each piece arrives ready to hang with a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket to float the artwork approximately one inch off the wall, giving a refined gallery presentation. For small prints where a cleat is impractical, alternate hardware (screw or wire hanger) may be used on request. Because wall materials vary, we do not supply wall anchors and strongly recommend professional installation, especially for large or high‑value pieces. Image as example only, exact hardware can vary slightly

  • LIFETIME RUNS

    Limited Editions

    of 25 Prints

Every photograph released as a limited edition is capped at twenty‑five total prints across all sizes and finishes. Once all twenty‑five are placed, the edition closes permanently and is never produced again. Your piece will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity documenting the edition number (for example, 3/25), the title, and a personal narrative about how the photograph was captured and created. A serialised holographic sticker links the certificate to the artwork, ensuring provenance and authenticity for resale or appraisal.

  • MATERIALS & PRINTING

    Acrylic

    Face-Mount Process

Each limited edition print is produced using a gallery‑grade acrylic face‑mounting process. The image is printed on high‑resolution metallic photo paper with archival inks, then permanently bonded to UV‑resistant acrylic using an optically clear adhesive. This technique allows light to pass through the acrylic and reflect off the metallic print, creating depth, vibrant color, and a dramatic presence. Cast acrylic is used to prevent yellowing over time, and the edges are polished for a refined finish.

  • MOUNTING & DISPLAY

    Ready to

    Present

Each piece arrives ready to hang using a professional aluminum cleat system affixed to the back of the artwork. The cleat interlocks with a matching wall bracket, causing the print to float roughly one inch off the wall for a clean, modern presentation. Due to the weight and value of these pieces, professional installation is strongly recommended.
